Leadership Action Plan
Technology is a necessity in the classroom, we must use technology to help students reach their full potential. Technology provides a different approach to assessments and differentiation within a single classroom. As a technology endorsed teacher, it is my goal to help create a desire for other teachers at Bell View Elementary to have a desire to integrate technology into their teaching.
Part 1 Effective Leadership
What skills will help me become a leader that is willing to promote technology?
First, you must be willing to use technology to inspire students and teachers across the curriculum. I feel that technology is changing at a fast-pace, as a leader I must be willing to learn and seek new skills continually. As fast as technology changes we need to be willing to provide opportunities in our schools and classroom. Creating opportunities for effective communication both positive and negative is a must. I feel that there will be many times technology will not work how is it expected. If we are frustrated, this trickles down. As a leader we need to communicate effectively with others. An opportunity for all to share ideas both positive and negative is a must. Often times
What are your strengths/weaknesses as a leader?
A strength that I feel is important in a leader is flexibility. I feel being flexible and willing to keep trying are strengths that I have. I have a passion and determination to try something and find a way to make it work. Many times I will spend countless hours to provide opportunities for teammates to utilize tools that I have found helpful. I feel that I am efficient. This is helpful because I try to solve my own problems before I just run for help. I feel this has helped me gain a knowledge and understanding of technology works.
I often feel that people don’t want to hear what I have to say when it comes to technology. I was willing to help teachers write grants and gave up many hours to help grant many teachers access to technology. I did this for selfish reasons. I feel that my students need to continue on with technology after they leave my class. How is this a weakness? I often feel that my knowledge is not what people want to hear. This might because many have taught longer than I have. I feel a weakness is that I agree to help too many people and spread myself thin. This is not what my role as a leader should be. I need to help arrange Professional Development.
At my school, I believe the biggest challenge facing teachers is time. Often we are afraid to take the time to try and learn new things. With new reading and language programs in place teachers feel, how can we try one more thing? If technology is hand fed to them they will use it. How do you do this? You need time to prepare lessons and activities to deliver to the teachers.
Another challenge I see is not being willing to try new things. If the old way works why fix it. Currently the teachers at my school are not willing to be flexible and try new things. This is a challenge for the teachers that want to try new things. I hear criticism about why I do the things I do. Teachers feel scared that if it doesn't work they don't know how to fix it. I feel you need to be flexible and willing to try and involve technology.
There are many stakeholders that are involved. Starting with me as a teacher. I need to be willing to take risks and change how I with about teaching. How can I share my knowledge with others? My job is to provide opportunities for students who are using technology everyday outside of class. How can I continue their engagement and excitement into the classroom? I can’t do this with out other stakeholders.
I have a principal who loves to spend money on technology. She buys technology and divides it to all grades. I feel sometimes that teachers have technology that is sitting and collecting dust, while others would love to use it. How can I help with this? The Principal has worked with the PTA to provide IPod Listening centers in 1st and 2nd grades. Is this what the community wants? Let’s use what is provided to us.
Next, we have district support to keep the technology up and going. What happens when they are slow to help? Teachers are frustrated and decide not to continue with the technology. Technology is not only for Data collection but meaningful instruction.
What understanding of school/district culture is needed?
Each school requires different needs. All students need equal access to technology. How do you decided what is best? I feel that as a leader we need to work closer with our Ed. Techs and principals and help evaluate needs at our schools. How can we see the big picture and help obtain what is needed. I feel that younger students will need equal opportunities in the computer labs, as do the older students. It is my feeling that students need to become familiar younger with technology so when they are in older grades they are proficient and can create great projects and find magic in learning.

Part 2 Professional Development
What should the professional development look like in your building?
Professional Development should be interesting and engaging. I feel like at my school we have the same type of trainings over and over. I would like to see professional development in my school be focused on the tools that are currently available. Many times we are given a tool and told to make it work or figure it out. Then, we are given a new tool and not given much to do with it. How does this work? Well many teachers at my school feel overwhelmed and give up. They leave Professional Development unmotivated and stressed out. This is not what to get teachers to be willing to try new things. Teachers and students need to be able to know and feel that the lessons they are being asked to complete worth their time and benefitting their students or them. Other than that, teachers should have the choice of what they want to spend their time learning about. I do believe that it benefits teachers greatly if they have professional development on a regular basis. Help teachers experience learning with enthusiasm and umph that they can take back to their classroom and utilize.
I feel that PD should be taught be a person who is respectful of all students or teachers in the room. I feel often times we think we are better than another. Keep in mind that learning is nor a forced effort.
What type of professional development will you be comfortable leading?
I feel very confident training my teachers in most technology on the mac and the Ipad. I feel that Pearson is a great resource that needs to be utilized. I would like to see teachers using tools that are available to them. I feel confident teaching with clickers and creating assessments in Notebook. I feel comfortable in small groups. In my classroom we are using an Apple TV to mirror Ipads, we are also using Ipods. I feel comfortable teaching these tools. I feel knowledgeable with iMovie and iDvd. I feel that If I took the time to do and inservice on on these programs teachers would be more willing to use digital storytelling in their classrooms. I wish I had more time to visit classrooms and to help teachers utilizes the tools that they currently have.
In what areas will you need help?
I will need help finding time and motivation to help others attend. I feel that I have teachers coming to me for help, but they are not willing to give up time to help others. Teachers are willing to give time for things they need. They are not always willing to take time to learn for themselves. How do you motivate a teacher to find solutions on his or her own. My main area that I will need help in is staying on topic and moving at a pace that is perfect for all. I feel that often time I am the student who doesn’t need to be in the training, because we never get to the end result.
What types of informal Professional Development do you believe would help your staff?
I feel that the staff at my school would be willing to attend trainings on all areas of technology if it was convenient to the. I feel that many staff members at my school
What is your plan for continued professional development and lifelong learning?
I feel that I will forever be a student. I love to learn new things. Technology is constantly changing. To keep up-to-date I will need to attend classes and conferences to gain further knowledge in these areas. I would like to prepare and present professional development on topics that teachers feel important . Maybe someday I will have the courage to present at UCET.
I will continue to get my master’s degree in Technology Education and continue to teach in the classroom where more is required of me. I hope that I will continue toe try new tools and be willing to learn form others.

Part 3 Educational leadership and Innovation
What innovations are you most excited about and why? What is their application to learning?
I love the different results that come from infusing technology in my 2nd grade classroom. I feel that I am able to engage my students in a different way then many others in my school. I am really excited to feel comfortable to try new programs when they come out. I do not fear the failure of technology in my classroom. I love that my students test a majority of their tests online. This saves grading and provides new opportunities to them. Using technology helps me feel excited to teach. I feel that integrating technology in my classroom is subtle. Technology is used so frequent that students forget that they are actually using it. I love that my 2nd graders are able to help me problem solve.
How will you stay current on educational research and innovation? How will you share this knowledge with teachers in your building? I feel that by reading different article I will be able to be introduced to many topics that I am experiment with. Twitter will be a great way to stay up on what is currently happening in the world around. Also, I will watch what my own children are doing with technology. This will help me try and stay one step in front of them.
I will share this knowledge with my teammates with projects that I am doing. Also, I will be willing to teach other teachers about what I am learning. I will continue to update my blog with experiences that I have had with technology . I will continue to be an example to thers in my building by showing them the even 2nd graders can do it.
What technology tools will you use to effectively improve productivity and student learning? What technology tools will be the easiest to promote in your building? I feel that there are many web-based programs that can help improve students learning . I would like to use a basic camera to create class book for real life experiences. Students become more productive when given a device.
I feel that I can really promote the use of technology by helping teachers gain their own technology. This year I helped may teachers in my school write grants for technology. Now that they are funded the teachers feel that it is important to use it. We will be using iPod touch in many classrooms this year. Also, the netbooks that our school piloted last year, students feel comfortable using them, therefore teachers are willing to try.
What technology tools will be most challenging? I feel any tool that you don’t have a class set of enough to have partners creates a challenge. Many tools need to be worked on individually. Technology limits the interactions of face-to-face contact. I feel that creating a 1:1 classroom with be the challenging due to the fact that there is a lack of funding.

Part 4 Contributions
How will you contribute to the effectiveness, vitality and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community?
I contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession, our environment, and our community by being a team player and an example to others. I always try to create a positive environment for students and teachers. I am always willing to help another teacher succeed even without recognition. I feel it is really important to stay current with the trends of technology and simplify them for others. How can I help?
In what ways will you give back to the education profession and larger learning community? (Grants, Online Lesson plans, Flipped Classroom Lesson, etc.)
I have given back to my school and to the students in our classroom. I will continue to help create more opportunities for technology in the students hands. For the past two years I have been helping teachers write grants for technology. This has opened many opportunities for Bell View Elementary. My principal has been willing to provide more technology to the school if we show willingness to use it and engage our students. We are very grateful for the many donors that have given to our classrooms at Bell View Elementary.
Another way that I have given back is by helping ease the minds of teachers and parents about the abilities of our students. I am creating lesson plans to pas on to teachers within my school. I often feel that my lesson plans a not good enough to share.
Lastly, I would like to try and create student centered learning infused with technology. I would love to have a 1:1 classroom to provide these opportunities for my students.
